Omicron Delta Epsilon is one of the world's largest academic honor societies. The objectives of Omicron Delta Epsilon are recognition of scholastic attainment and the honoring of outstanding achievements in economics; the establishment of closer ties between students and faculty in economics within colleges and universities, and among colleges and universities; the publication of its official journal, The American Economist; and sponsoring of panels at professional meetings as well as the ODE Graduate Research and Undergraduate Research Award competitions.

UNT currently has an active chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, Alpha Eta.
Are you interested in becoming a member?

The minimum requirements for admission for undergraduates are:

      • completion of 12 credit hours of economics courses; and
      • attainment of a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better in economics courses and an overall GPA of at least 3.0

Graduate students in economics are judged solely on their graduate work and must have:

      • completed one semester of full-time work, with a major or minor in economics; and
      • attainment of a GPA of 3.0 or better.

If you are interested and meet the minimum requirements, please email the unofficial transcripts of your study at UNT, from your UNT email account, to  the faculty advisor for ODE (Dr. Yang Zhou at yang.zhou2@unt.edu), by Friday, March 21, 2025. You will need an invitation code from your advisor to register online.

Please make it clear in the email that how your current academic progress would satisfy the requirements above. There is a one-time membersip fee of $50 that needs to be paid directly to ODE (additional ODE merchandise can also be purchased). The ODE faculty advisor will review the application and inform qualified applicatns with next steps (do not make any payment until you have been notified from the ODE faculty advisor). Meanwhile, contact the advisor with any questions you may have.

Officially accepted members will be recognized at the UNT Department of Economics Annual Banquet in late April. More details will be provided later. Visit Omicron Delta Epsilon official website for more information.
