Can you describe your current role and the path that led you there?

I am the Chief Operating Officer at Kalibrate, a leading retail analytics firm with clients and team members across the globe.  My career began with developing solutions for clients using data science and econometric modeling, and over time progressed into leading teams in delivering these solutions, working in an advisory/consulting capacity with customers, and collaborating in product strategy and development. 

How did your degree from UNT Economics contribute to your career development?

At UNT I learned that economics is fundamentally about understanding, explaining, and predicting human behavior.  This grounding in consumer theory, paired with a focus on econometrics and quantitative analysis, provided me the tools to be successful in insights-driven fields.  Additionally, the opportunity to teach (TA/TF) during my time at UNT helped hone my communication skills, which have been invaluable in leading teams and working with clients and partners.

What did you most enjoy about your time studying economics at UNT?

Three things stand out.  First, the professors in the UNT Economics program were deeply committed to providing a high-quality education, which had a direct and lasting impact on my learning experience.  Second, working on applied projects gave me a valuable insight into how economics can be used to address real-world challenges.  And lastly, teaching as part of my graduate studies was an enriching and rewarding experience that also deepened my understanding of the material.

Do you have any advice for someone considering an Economics degree at UNT? What advice would you give to current and prospective students who are considering a similar career path?

An Economics degree at UNT is an excellent choice for developing analytical and problem solving skills that are in high demand.  Take advantage of opportunities to engage in research and applied projects, especially those involving real-world data or intersecting with other fields you are passionate about.  And if you pursue this career path, focus on building both your technical expertise and communication skills, as both are important for long-term success.
