This scholarship is named in honor of Professor Rosser B. “Abe” Melton. He served the department from 1946-1975 as a faculty member and later as chairman. His barbed wit and insight made him a contact inspiration to his students. This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate economics major of junior standing that has at least 60 hours and a minimum 3.5 overall grade point average.

This scholarship named in honor of Dr. Tom Preston, good friend of the Department of Economics, who served as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1982-1992. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate economics majors. Any economics major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 is eligible. Entering freshmen or entering graduate students are eligible. Entering undergraduate students must meet a minimum SAT score requirement of 1000 or minimum ACT score of 24 and have at least an overall high school GPA of 3.0. Entering graduate students must meet the current Economics graduate admissions standards.

This scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduate economics majors. Any student, who is an Economics major and has at least a 3.0 GPA on all college work, is eligible. Entering freshman who have a minimum SAT score of 1000 or an ACT score of at least 24 are also eligible to apply. The number and amount of awards depend upon the availability of funding.

This scholarship is named in honor of Professor Lew Abernathy (whom we lost in November of 2005). Dr. Abernathy served the Department from 1967 until his retirement in 1999. He was chairman from 1984 to 1994. His passion was labor education and he directed the UNT Institute for Labor and Industrial Relations and the UNT Econ Labor Education Program. This scholarship is merit based for full-time graduate or undergraduate majors in economics. Students must have a minimum 3.0 average and maintain full time enrollment status unless they are graduating.

This scholarship is for current economics majors who are graduating with a BA/BS/BBA in Economics and who will join the Master's program in Economics in the fall of the coming year. The number and amount of awards depend on the availability of funding.

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduate student seeking the MS or MA in Economics or MS in Economic Research. To be eligible, currently enrolled students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on all college work. If the applicant is a student who wishes to enter the program and is not a transferring graduate student, an undergraduate overall GPA of 3.5 is required. Our alumni that work for Verizon fund this scholarship.

This scholarship is the result of a very generous gift by Catherine Ann and Virgil E. Rogers to establish a scholarship for undergraduate majors in the Department of Economics. This scholarship was created by members of the Department of Economics and the family & friends of Aaron Wuensch, a former graduate student in the Department of Economics who lost his life in June of 2009.
